Avodart is a prescription medicine used to treat the symptoms of an enlarged prostate (Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia). Avodart may be used alone or with other medications.

Avodart belongs to a class of drugs called 5-Alpha-Reductase Inhibitors. It is not known if Avodart is safe and effective in children.

What Are Side Effects of Avodart?

Side effects of Avodart include:

- hives,

- difficulty breathing,

- swelling in your face or throat,

- fever,

- sore throat,

- burning eyes,

- skin pain, red or purple skin rash with blistering and peeling

Avodart is also used to treat male pattern hair loss (androgenetic alopecia) by increasing hair growth and preventing further hair loss from all areas of the scalp.
